Biodiversity and Marine Environment
Surrounded by Water: Opportunities for Biodiversity and Marine Environment
More Life Underwater
Our location provides us with excellent opportunities to work on biodiversity and the marine environment. For us, activities in the port area are not at odds with marine life.
We have partnered with Aarhus University to initiate the establishment of Biohuts® - so-called "fish nurseries" - on a larger scale. A total of 18 fish nurseries have been installed underwater in the port area. They are intended to protect the very young fish from the sea's many predators while also providing opportunities for various species of marine animals and plants to establish themselves.
Improving Conditions for Seagrass
The marine environment in Denmark is under pressure in several areas. We believe that together we can contribute to improving the current condition in a wise and valuable manner. We have entered into an agreement with the University of Southern Denmark for a research-based seagrass project. It aims to increase biodiversity in Aarhus Bay.
Over the next few years, researchers will explore the potential for re-establishing seagrass in the bay while also ensuring new knowledge about seagrass and the possibilities for large-scale planting.
In May 2024, the first plantings of seagrass will take place. Researchers from the University of Southern Denmark will use these plantings as a test to gain new knowledge about the conditions under which seagrass in Aarhus Bay can have the best possible effect on the local marine environment.
