Security in the Port Area
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) sets the rules for the security of ships and port facilities in the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS). This applies to passenger ships, cargo ships with a gross tonnage of at least 500, and port facilities handling these ships. Therefore, Port of Aarhus is regulated by the ISPS Code as well as other EU directives and national legislation.
The security requirements vary depending on the type of cargo and passengers. Therefore, the port area in Aarhus is divided into different security zones. This means, among other things, that there is access control, where one must show ID and have a legitimate reason to gain access.
Declaration of Security (DOS)
Crew wishing to go ashore must possess photo identification. A declaration of security is issued only under the following conditions:
- The ship operates at a different security level than Port of Aarhus.
- A security threat or incident has affected the ship or facility.
- The ship has been in a port/facility not required to have an approved security plan.
Ships meeting one of the above security conditions and wishing to have a declaration of security issued must apply to Port of Aarhus at security@portofaarhus.dk
Subsequently, the ship is requested to anchor at Aarhus Red and await the port's highest security authority and/or the facility's PFSO. All expenses related to the issuance of the declaration of security are borne by the ship.
Drone Operations
Procedure description for drone flight within Port of Aarhus's area:
- Flight, regardless of purpose, may only take place with permission from Port of Aarhus (granted by PSO).
- Flight closer than 150 meters horizontally from column 3 companies (which store flammable and explosive substances, toxic substances, or environmentally hazardous substances) requires permission from the respective companies.
- Port of Aarhus may at any time require to see approval and authorization for the drone and drone operator.
- Port of Aarhus assesses whether a desired drone flight will disturb other stakeholders in the port/customer areas and decides accordingly whether it is allowed.
- Permission is generally granted as a one-time permit (application must be made each time flight is desired). The application is sent to: port@portofaarhus.dk
