The Port of Aarhus is now a joint stock company

The Port of Aarhus has experienced great growth over the past several years and is today Denmark's largest commercial port with around 10 million tonnes of cargo crossing the quays annually.
In order to support continued development and create better business opportunities, the Board of Directors of Port of Aarhus has asked the City Council to transform the Port of Aarhus into a joint stock company. It is now a reality.
Ever since 1845, the Port of Aarhus has created growth and development both locally and nationally. Today, the port is Denmark's largest commercial port, connecting Danish business with the rest of the world. Now is the time to write a new chapter in history. One that in many ways reaches into the future. A new form of company will contribute to strengthening our position, our cooperation with the Danish business community and our commercial opportunities, which are prerequisites for the port's future development,
says Thomas Haber Borch, CEO of Port of Aarhus.
It was back in December 2024 that a political majority in Aarhus City Council decided to transform the Port of Aarhus into a municipal joint stock company.
The Port of Aarhus is critical infrastructure for both Aarhus and Denmark. That’s why I look forward to seeing the port embark on a new chapter in its development with a new form of company. This is of great importance to the many businesses and, not least, the thousands of people whose daily work depends on the port,
says Mayor Anders Winnerskjold.

With the transformation into a joint stock company, the Port of Aarhus has been given a new Board of Directors with Susanne Juhl as chairman. She takes over the chairmanship from Mayor Anders Winnerskjold, who will henceforth be vice chairman of the board.
I look forward to the task and cooperation with the new Board of Directors, Aarhus Municipality, the City Council and not least with Port of Aarhus' management, employees and customers. The Port of Aarhus is in a good place, and there is no doubt that we are facing an exciting future. In a world that is currently changing both greatly and rapidly, the focus will be on ensuring Danish supply and a sustainable development of the port for the benefit of Danish business and the whole country,
says the new Chairman of the Board Susanne Juhl.
In addition to the Chairman and Vice-Chairman, Port of Aarhus' Board of Directors consists of the following:
- Bünyamin Simsek, Councillor in Aarhus
- Anne Hammer, Councillor in Aarhus
- Andreas Nordseth, former Director of the Danish Maritime Authority
- Ole Thomsen, Executive Vice President of JYSK
- Hanne Storm Edlefsen, CEO of Energinet
- Up to four employee-elected members not yet elected
