Port of Aarhus receives two military ships as part of logistics task
1,200 units of military equipment in the form of vehicles, equipment, and soldiers. That's what will be located at Port of Aarhus in the coming weeks when the two American ships, ARC Patriot and ARC Independence, dock.
Following a successful logistics operation in January, where the US military used Port of Aarhus as a transit port for host nation support for the first time ever, a new operation is now taking place – this time with twice as much equipment.
"When we acted asa transit port for the US military in January, it was the first time we tried our hand at such a task. It went really well, and even though there will be more equipment this time, we are ready with the necessary infrastructure, and I am confident that together we can also solve this important task," says Thomas Haber Borch, CEO of Port of Aarhus.
Host nation support is an important part of the tasks that all NATO countries must be able to carryout. The vehicles and containers will be transported by train to Eastern Europeas part of a planned rotation of US troops.
That the Port of Aarhus is once again chosen fora task of this caliber shows that the port is crucial when it comes to critical infrastructure both in Denmark and Europe. Its location by the Baltic Sea means that Denmark, as a NATO country, can contribute to moving equipment to where it makes a difference,
— says Thomas Haber Borch.
Parts of the Port of Aarhus will be closed off during the military logistics operation, which is conducted in close cooperation with East Jutland Police, the Navy, the Home Guard, and the Defense.
An invitation to a press event at Port of Aarhus will be sent out in the near future.
