Port of Aarhus Receives EU Support for Establishing Shore Power for Container Ships
The European Commission has just approved Port of Aarhus's application for funds to establish shore power at the container terminal.
In collaboration with several other major European ports, Port of Aarhus applied to the EU for co-financing for the establishment of shore power for container ships. The European Commission has just given the green light to the application. In total, the EU is contributing 39.8 million kroner to finance the shore power facility, which will enable container ships to turn off their diesel generators while docked in Aarhus.
We are very pleased that the European Commission and the CEF Committee recognize our high ambitions for the green transition. We are Denmark's largest commercial port, where the vast majority of Danish container goods pass through. Therefore, it is a crucial step for our competitiveness and, not least, in the green transition that we can now establish shore power for container ships,
- says Anne Zachariassen, COO at Port of Aarhus.
Port of Aarhus expects that container ships will be able to connect to shore power by the end of 2026.
